Goodies from National Quilt Museum for my trip to Saudi

Being that I grew up in Paducah, KY which is dubbed Quilt City USA and since they are the home of The National Quilt Museum I contacted them to see if they would be willing to send me some brochures to share with the ladies in the quilt group in Dhahran, Saudi.  Susan called me on the phone and asked what would I like to have.  I honestly thought that all they would agree to send me was some brochures.  Susan really hooked me up with all kinds of goodies.  I was so excited when I got the box, I tore it open.  Below are pictures of what Susan sent me.  Everything will be given to the quilt group.

Growing up, I thought Paducah was really crappy.  As I got older, I had a new found appreciation for Paducah and it's history.  Paducah was named after Indian Chief Paduke.  There really is ALOT of history in Paducah, the downtown area, the riverfront, etc.  Then along comes The National Quilt Museum to add even more to the area.

Each Spring for a few days Paducah has a Quilt Festival.  Paducah is kinda small but during those days, it's crawling with quilters from all over the globe, young & old, men & women.  Think of Mardi Gras in a small town!  Hotels & motels for hundreds of miles around are completely booked so some visitors end up renting rooms in peoples' homes, kinda like a Bed & Breakfast kind of thing.  I have yet to go but it's on my list.

THANKS SUSAN FOR THE GOODIES!

Wonky Tic-Tac-Toe Hot Pads - part 1

This is part 1 of probably 3 or 4 posts.  As yall probably remember me mentioning in a previous post, on March 8th I'm flying overseas to visit my twin in Saudi for 3 months.  They have a quilt group over there in the area that my twin lives and I wanted to make some small gifts to give the ladies in the group.  Some of the fabrics were sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop.  I contacted Stephanie explaining what I was doing and asked if they would sponsor some fabric to make hot pads and they agreed!  Stephanie chose some really nice fabrics from Pat Bravo Art Gallery's Poetica Line, you will get a better look at them when I take pictures of the finished hot pads.  The other fabrics and such were sponsored by someone who wished to remain anonymous.  I chose the fabrics myself.  I think I did a great job choosing.  I chose all kinds of colors & designs.  There is something for every design taste.

Each Hot Pad will be 8.5" square when finished.  Last night I cut the fabrics into rough squares, sandwiched them with 2 layers of Insul-Brite for more protection.  Then I did the Wonky Tic-Tac-Toe quilting as shown below.  After doing one of the hot pads with the fabric from Fat Quarter Shop in the Tic-Tac-Toe grid, I decided that since the fabrics were dainty like in feel and look, that I could do only the first set of lines that were 3.5" apart.  I didn't finish with the Tic-Tac-Toe grid.

I JUST NEED TO CUT THE BINDING STRIPS, BIND THEM AND DO THE LOOP DE LOOP HANGY THING ON THE CORNERS.

STAY TUNED TO SEE FINISHED PICTURES OF THE HOT PADS.  ALSO STAY TUNED FOR WHEN I PRESENT THEM TO THE QUILT GROUP IN SAUDI.

THANKS FAT QUARTER SHOP FOR SPONSORING SOME OF THE LUSCIOUS FABRICS!

Traveling Overseas - Who wants to GIFT an International Quilter?

Hey Yall,

On approx March 8th I will be traveling overseas until May 31st to spend time with my twin and her family.  There is a local quilt group there and I am going to become a temporary member.  I thought it would be cool to do a type of PenPal thing but with a small handsewn gift and a note/letter.  Being that I am flying, small handsewn gifts would work best like thread catchers, coasters, pincushions, pillow covers, mug rugs, doll quilts, zipper pouches, wallets, small purses, small tote bags and such.  I will take pictures of the gifts being received over there and will post them on my blog in addition to other sewing/quilting pictures/videos.

It would be cool to include a note/letter about you, your life of sewing/quilting, the city and state you live in, your email address and anything else you want to add.  You don't need to put your mailing address nor your last name.

My twin is going to find out exactly how many quilters are in the group so I can let yall know, in case yall want to participate.

If you would like to participate, please leave me a comment below and I will email you back.  ALL GIFTS NEED TO BE POST MARKED NO LATER THAN FEB 29TH.  YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO SPONSOR MORE THAN 1 GIFT.
