Projects I Want to Try - Oven Hand Mitts by The Idea Room Blog

We've been in our apartment for about 1.5 months now and I am embarrassed to admit that we have many things missing that I need to sew/make.  One of those much needed items are Oven Mitts that double as Hot Pads.  RIGHT NOW WE ARE USING DOUBLED UP KITCHEN TOWELS!!!!!  I love this below project because I can use it to take things out of the oven as well as lay them on a counter/table and use them to put hot pots/casserole dishes on.  My swap partners from the monthly Fat Quarter Friends swaps are giving me some awesome Chili Pepper fabrics to make kitchen/dining items with.  As soon as I make things I will definitely post them here for yall to see.

These are 3 wonderful Fat Quarters I received from my swap partners.

Anyway, click the image below to get the Tutorial to make your own Oven Hand Mitts.  I love these Oven Mitts because of their oval shape and how you can showcase 2 different fabrics at once.

Look What my 2 September Fat Quarter Friends Swap Partners Sent Me!

I am totally stoked this month!  I got 2 great packs from my swap Partners Rina & Melissa!  I couldn't be happier!

First up, Rina sent me some great goodies:  A Poinsettia Applique Pattern, A handmade Stilletto, some vintage needles and 4 awesome Fat Quarters!

Above is the Handmade Stilletto that Rina made me!  Isn't it gorgeous!  I've never had vintage needles so the package will look nice standing upright on a wall shelf in my future sewing studio.

Okay, I went nuts over these 2 fabrics!  The owls I think I will wrap around an artist canvas and just hang on the wall as is.  The Chili Pepper fabric will become hot pads in my Chili Pepper/Tabasco Kitchen!

++++++++++++++++++++

Next is my package from Melissa!  More great goodies!

Melissa sent me these 3 cute quilting notecards.  I have a few others that I have received and I think I will put them all in a cute frame to hang in my future sewing studio.

She sent me a cute quilty looking emory board/nail file along with this awesome Owl hot pads pattern!  I plan to make a few and hang them in my future sewing studio, the them will be retro owls and other bright patterns like polka dots, stripes, etc.

Very cute owl fabric and love the chevrons.  I have other owl fabrics and I plan to put pieces of each in embroidery hoops to hand on the wall in my future sewing studio.

This is the back of the cute emory board she sent me!  It's from the Quilter's Travel Companion which is a publication of quilt shops and museums around the USA.

Gotta love the Chili Peppers!  They will go in my kitchen somehow, not sure just yet!

I'm really enjoying the monthly Fat Quarter Friends Swaps!  If you would like to join us for October, click the logo at the very top of this post.

Great Resources for Beginner Hand Embroidery - Waterfalls & Hand Embroidery go great together!

THIS POST IS KINDA LONG, SO PLEASE BARE WITH ME!  :)

The below links and pictures are not mine.  I found them while searching for tutorials for Beginner Hand Embroidery.  I found them to be very helpful so wanted to pass the resources along to those new to Hand Embroidery or those that want to try it.  I never thought I would like it, but actually I enjoy it.  I have found Hand Embroidery to be soothing, relaxing, stress free and I can take it with me anywhere in a small pouch.  I can do it in the car, on the plane, etc.  NO PLUGIN OUTLET NEEDED, UNLIKE WITH A SEWING MACHINE!

My husband likes to go to this Middle Eastern Cafe that has a huge outdoor seating area with 2 waterfalls.  He says it reminds him of home (Cairo, Egypt).  Well, he enjoys it so much that he goes there for a few hours at a time.  Sometimes I go with him but get bored with my internet stuff so Hand Embroidery would be perfect for me to do while he is doing his internet stuff.  We do talk and eat but mostly it's quiet time with each of us on our electronics.  He catches up on Facebook and World News, etc while I do blogging, look at sewing projects and fabric shoppes.  The soothing sounds of the 2 waterfalls while doing hand embroidery projects I think will be awesome and truly enjoyable, not to mention passing the time constructively.

HOW TO STORE YOUR EMBROIDERY FLOSSES:

By default, many people who do crafts with Embroidery Floss use Plastic Floss Bobbins/Floss Cards.  You can get a pack of I think 10 for 99 cents at Wal-Mart.  Other craft stores have them too.  Here is how Sedef of Down Grapevine Lane Blog labels hers so she knows what matching colors to get when she runs out.  Plastic Bobbins are very durable but you can't write the color number on them very well.
